POWERPLAY AUDITIONS

Solo Chicken Productions is seeking to cast TWO emerging artists for roles in our upcoming show, Powerplay. This is a professional opportunity, with equitable payment for all rehearsals and production.

About Powerplay
Powerplay  follows a fictional university women’s hockey team on their hunt for glory. As a new Head Coach attempts to rebuild the program, six players contend with inner demons, external societal forces, and the privilege of pressure. Combining witty dialogue and ripped-from-real-life-characters with a hockey/physical theatre mash-up, Powerplay is a door into the world of women’s hockey, where strength is celebrated and community is key. Powerplay celebrates the tenacity of the women who battled through sexism, lack of support and changing in broom closets to get to the moment where we are today.

Casting Information

  • While anyone fitting the casting description is welcomed to audition, SCP is prioritizing racialized artists* for these roles! 

  • Solo Chicken is looking for young emerging artists (25 years old and under) seeking professional performance opportunities in New Brunswick.

  • Due to our partnership with the university, students currently enrolled at St. Thomas University or University of New Brunswick are not eligible for these roles.

  • Powerplay tells the story of a university women’s hockey team.  We are interested in receiving auditions from any artists who feel they are suited for these roles, including trans, cis and non-binary people.

  • Auditions are open to all body types.

* ”Racialized artists” is a term we use to describe anyone who belongs to a racial or cultural background that has been disproportionately marginalized in Western society because of colonization. This includes Black People, Indigenous People, People of Colour, Biracial People, and more!

Auditions

Auditions will be held at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre (732 Charlotte Street) September 14 2026 between 6:30 - 8:30 PM.

  • Auditions will include performing sides (scenes). A reader will be provided by SCP.

  • Sides will be provided upon booking an audition time. Actors are expected to be familiar with the material, but there is no expectation to be off-book (have the script memorized)!

  • Audition slots are 15 minutes.

Rehearsals & Artist Fees

  • Rehearsals take place Thursday nights from 5:30 - 8:30 PM, October 15 - February 25 (no rehearsals in December). Rehearsals become more intensive in March, leading up to performances March 18 - 24 2026.

  • Rehearsals take place at St Thomas University in Fredericton, New Brunswick

  • Actors will be paid a rate of $25/hour for rehearsals and $850/week during production.
