THE BIG GAY CABARET

 An evening of loud, proud, queer joy as a form of resistance.

Solo Chicken Productions in partnership with Charlotte Street Arts Centre invite you to join us for an evening of delightful performances by some of Fredericton’s most creative queer artists. Poetry, burlesque, drag, dance, improv and more!  Let’s come together to celebrate queerness, resist hate and kick off 2024 with a powerful message of love and community.

All proceeds from the evening will be donated to Equality NB, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting equality & working to improve the lives of marginalized folks in New Brunswick with a current focus on Policy 713.

  • Sophie Brander (she/they)

    THEATRE MONOLOGUE

    Sophie Brander (she/they) wears many hats - actor, writer, comic book lover, fashion design student. Hailing from Moncton, NB and proud of it, they came to Fredericton very pointedly to not study theatre, and then found herself deeply embroiled in the beautiful local theatre community anyways, She very excited for this opportunity to perform alongside fellow queer artists and try her hand for the first official time as a solo act funny-man in Solo Chicken's Big Gay Cabaret!

  • Sydney Hallett (she/her)

    DANCE

    Sydney Hallett is a queer actor/dancer/choreographer/educator based in Fredericton, NB. She has a BA in Fine Arts and English (Drama) from St. Thomas University and has been training in physical theatre with Solo Chicken Productions since 2017. Currently, she works as a choreographer for TNB and St. Thomas University’s Musical Theatre program. She also creates and produces her own dance and movement works. As an actor, she has performed with various local companies including Solo Chicken Productions, Bard in the Barracks, NotaBle Acts, Hyperloop Theatre, and Theatre St. Thomas.

  • Maury Hansen (he/they) / M the Letter

    DRAG/MUSIC

    M the Letter is a trans drag artist from Fredericton, New Brunswick. They love to bring the joy of live music into the mix when it comes to drag. Many of their costumes are handmade, as they currently work as a fiber artist, and graduated from NBCCD in Fashion Design.

  • Olivier Hébert (they/them)

    BURLESQUE/DRAG

    Olivier has been prancing around on stages dancing gracefully since they were 3, doing Highland dancing. Today they will not be doing any of that and instead will use those dance lessons for the highest form of dance performance...stripping.

  • Jena McLean (she/they)

    THEATRE MONOLOGUE

    Jena McLean (she/they) is a queer playwright and dramaturg whose work personalizes the political. In addition to lecturing at St. Thomas University, they are currently developing their plays Much Ado Part Two, Like Confetti, and How to Give Yourself a [Redacted]. Jena is driven to create work that centres care and empowers people to feel seen. She is a fat sagittarius who successfully kept a fiddle leaf fig alive for 16 months.

  • Chan Polchies (he/him)

    STAND-UP

    I am a two-spirit indigenous artist at the beginning of my performing career. Brought up on Woodstock first Nation and late to the performing arts. I have recently found Solo Chicken productions and have been taking classes to learn to be a multidisciplinary performing artist. My range of interest includes both being in front of and behind the camera as well as on and off stage. One of my current projects is a documentary that I am both co-directing and writing.

  • Ruby Ram (she/they)

    DRAG

    Ruby Ram is a spectacular drag queen based in Fredericton, New Brunswick! Ruby is sure to leave you wanting more from each upbeat performance with her captivating style and dancing skills! Vibrant, fashionable and unique, Ruby brings a new level of entertainment to the Maritimes!

  • Emmanuelle Sabina (she/they/he)

    DANCE

    Emmanuelle Sabina is an Afro-Indigenous artist residing in Fredericton, New Brunswick. They have grown up in creative spaces their whole life and love to perform. Some notable achievements in their dance career include winning Top Senior Solo in 2022 at The View Dance Challenge in Fredericton, and getting the chance to teach dance for 2 years in Oromocto. They are excited to perform again after so long, and can’t wait to see everyone!

    Fredericton’s enigmatic, multi-talented, naturally beautiful, witty and sophisticated drag artist.
