ABOUT the coop
In the spring of 2015 professional artists, Lesandra Dodson and Lisa Anne Ross collaboratively conceived the new performance initiative, the coop, which is considered a ‘wing’ of the established physical theatre company, Solo Chicken Productions. The twin aims of the coop are to provide professional New Brunswick artists with a platform to develop new work without having to import artists from other provinces, while simultaneously supporting the training and artistic growth of NB emerging artists.
Fredericton is home to an enthusiastically supportive community of arts patrons, with well-attended music and theatre festivals, a large number of galleries, and a strong literary community. There is a need, however, for more locally produced professional theatre/dance performances both to build audiences and to provide opportunities and inspiration for the hundreds of young dance and theatre students enrolled in community and school programs. Solo Chicken launched the coop to help to fill that need. With their extensive foundation in theatre, dance and performance, Dodson & Ross aim to navigate fluidly between their artistic disciplines and to build strong, exciting and original new works with a well-versed ensemble of courageous and inspired young artists.
the coop MISSION STATEMENT
the coop, is a platform for contemporary artists to research, develop and perform original works of physical theatre, while supporting the artistic growth of emerging New Brunswick artists through training and performance opportunities. The coop aims to create new works that will highlight NB stories, bring a spotlight to our talent, and foster and advance artistic vitality, innovation and excellence in the performing arts in our community.
